Shri Punch Mukhi Hanuman Temple

One of Karachi’s most revered Hindu temples, the ancient Shri Punch Mukhi
Hanuman Mandir located in Soldier Bazar, is expected to be renovated in what is
seen as a step being taken after possibly several hundred years. The
aesthetically designed temple is a heritage landmark of Karachi, where the
statue of Lord “Punch Mukhi” Hanuman appears naturally in a stone surface. This
statue is believed to be much older, claim worshippers.

Shri Punch Mukhi Hanuman Temple

The temple is of special significance to the Hindu community as it is one of a
kind in the world where the statue of Lord Punch Mukhi Hanuman appears
naturally. Devotees say that that Lord Ram visited the sacred place as well. The
murti (statue) first appeared in 1882 (according to the Hindu lunar calendar).
This entire land was surrounded by water back then, said temple priest Shri Ram
Nath Maharaj.

Hindu Temple, Mari-Indus,

High above the mighty Indus, on hills streaked red with salt, forts with
citadels, habitation sites, and temples were built from the sixth to the
eleventh centuries A.D. Largely ignored by scholarship in this century, and
orphaned since partition, these structures form an important missing link in the
history of architecture in South Asia (Mumtaz 1989). A new integrated
archaeological study of these sites, undertaken by this author with colleagues
in Peshawar, has begun to recover new aspects of this important period of South
Asia's antiquity.
