Steve Jobs

"Innovation has nothing to do with how many R&D dollars you have. When Apple came up with the Mac, IBM was spending at least 100 times more on R&D. It's not about money. It's about the people you have, how you're led, and how much you get it." Steve Jobs

A CEO whose salary is only $1 a year! Yes that's Steve Jobs, CEO of Apple which he co-founded in 1976. It is no surprise that he is among the most influential businessmen. Steve Jobs has also been listed as Fortune magazine's most powerful businessman of 2007.

Under his leadership, Apple leads the industry in innovation. With award winning products like Macintosh computers, OS X operating system, Apple also leads the digital music revolution, having sold over 110 million iPods and over three billion songs from its iTunes online store. Another gizmo from Jobs is the Apple iPhone.

A college dropout, Jobs, with Apple co-founder Steve Wozniak, helped popularise the personal computer in the late 1970s. After losing a power struggle with the board of directors in 1985, Jobs resigned from Apple and founded NeXT, a computer platform development company specialising in the higher education and business markets. NeXT's subsequent buyout by Apple brought Jobs back to the company he co-founded.

Steve also co-founded Pixar Animation Studios, which has created eight interesting animated films. Pixar has won 20 Academy Awards and its films have grossed more than $4 billion at the worldwide box office till date.

Pixar merged with The Walt Disney Company in 2006 and Jobs now serves on Disney's board of directors. He is an entrepreneur who believes in importance of innovation in the functional as well as aesthetics aspects for every device that the company launches. Whether it's the iPhone or the iPod, every innovation has a Jobs' touch.

Steve Ballmer

"Great companies in the way they work, start with great leaders." Steve Ballmer

The man who rules Microsoft is known for his leadership and passion. Often referred to as 'Microsoft's warrior', Ballmer has been very vociferous about smoking out competitors especially Google. The failed acquisition bid of rival Yahoo! may have dampened Ballmer's plans but he is not the one to give up easily.

Ballmer's energetic and aggressive leadership, vision and hard work over the years have ensured Microsoft's dominance in the software world. Steven A Ballmer was the first business manager hired by Bill Gates in 1980.

During the last two decades, Ballmer has headed several Microsoft divisions. He was appointed as the CEO in January 2000, taking over the full management responsibility for the company.

Ballmer's mission is to retain Microsoft's leadership across markets. He graduated from Harvard University with a bachelor's degree in mathematics and economics. While in college, Ballmer managed the football team, worked on the Harvard Crimson newspaper as well as the university literary magazine.

According to the Forbes 2008 richest people list, Ballmer is ranked as the 43rd richest person in the world, with an estimated wealth of $15 billion.
