This is a super exclusive club and is the domain of a handful of manufacturers. We are talking about some of the world's most powerful cars and there are precious few manufacturers who roll out these hand crafted, made-to-order cars that belt out obscene amount of power.

Even though these powerful machines can hardly be driven on an everyday basis like other lesser cars, there are enough exclusive clients who help keep these manufactures alive. These extremely powerful cars are in reality, powerful statements made by the owners.

Practicality be damned. The handful of manufacturers competes among themselves to outdo one another in producing the most powerful cars and the list is constantly changing. We bring you the top 10 most powerful cars in the planet at the moment but rest assured that this list is going to see changes pretty soon. Till then, take in the amazing technical specifications and drool over the pictures of these awesome cars.

SSC Ultimate Aero TT

The Ultimate Aero TT is the new monarch in this rarefied field of most powerful cars. Built by the Washington based Shelby Super Cars, the Ultimate Aero TT first made its appearance in 2004 under the name Aero AC/8T and the latest version of the Aero has been built just to prevent the Bugatti Veyron from running away with the title of the most powerful car on earth. And SSC has succeeded in its endeavour to very large extent.

The Ultimate Aero TT is a limited edition car and only 25 of these exotic cars are made in a year. Powered by a 6.2 litre, V8 engine with twin turbo, the Ultimate AeroTT has a mind numbing power output of 1183 bhp and a torque level of 1435 Nm. With figures like these, the Number One slot might be out of bounds for a majority of the manufacturers for sometime.

Bugatti Veyron

In the not too distant past, the Buggati Veyron was the most powerful, fastest and most expensive car on earth. But not anymore. It now stands third on the list of 10 most powerful cars.

With a maximum power output of 1001 bhp, this car held the laurels of the most powerful street-legal production car in the world between October 2005 to September 2007 before being edged out first by the Fighter T and then by Ultimate Aero TT.

Powered by an 8-litre, W16 engine with four turbocharger, the Bugatti Veyron has a proven top speed of 408 kmph. This beauty can accelerate from 0 to 100 kmph in just 2.5 seconds. The W16 engine produces such overwhelming heat that it needs 17 different cooling devices to keep the temperature within control.

Veyron is built by Volkswagen subsidiary Bugatti Automobiles SAS in Alsace, France. It is sold under the Bugatti marquee and has been named in honour of the French racing legend Pierre Veyron.

Koenigsegg CCX

Koenigsegg CCX ranks as the fourth most powerful car on the planet. The CCX, manufactured by Swedish car maker Koenigsegg, was built after Buggati came up with the world’s, the then fastest car, Veyron, in 2005. The car was meant to counter Bugatti Veyron as the world’s most powerful car but it fell short of the mark by some distance.

With a 4.7-litre, V8 engine, the CCX develops 806 bhp and 915 Nm of torque, enough to accelerate the car from a standstill to 100 kmph in just 3.2 seconds.

The Koenigsegg CCX is also available as the CCXR, the difference being that CCXR's engine is tuned to run on biofuel. The different fuel and tune allows the CCXR to produce 25 per cent more power than the CCX.

Saleen S7 Twin Turbo

In 2002, the Saleen S7 was the fastest American car and it could be driven legally on American freeways even though it produced more than 500 bhp of power and 800 Nm of torque. However, the company didn’t sit on its commendable laurels and introduced the reworked Saleen S7 in 2005.

This is the first major change to the S7 since its introduction and the changes were major. The engine power was boosted up to 750 bhp and the torque level went up to1120 Nm.

This car features a sleeker body as compared to the first generation S7 and also has a brand new suspension. However, the main change is the engine and under the bonnet lies the extremely powerful 7-litre V8 engine with a twin turbocharger.
