7. You miss being a part of his celebrations.

You feel weird every time you see a picture of him celebrating his birthday or small victories. You feel happy for him. At the same time, you miss him and miss being a part of his routine life.

8. You feel terribly low when he's unwell.

He’s in a far away land and has fever. The very thought kills you. You feel helpless. Secretly, you want to take the first flight out and visit him, but you know that’s not possible.

9. Festivals without him are plain boring.

Holi and Diwali are your loneliest days. You have endless childhood memories revolving around festivals, like bursting crackers together, eating chocolates, making rangolis and clicking pictures, and it’s difficult to do it all alone. Festivals are the time you get nostalgic and miss big brother the most.

10. No one steals ice-cream from the fridge anymore.

All the ice-creams, chocolates, pastries and donuts stay in the fridge. All for you. The worst thing is that you used to yell at your brother for eating it all, but now you just feel like sharing it with him.

11. When your brother is away, your parents expect you to be on your best behaviour.

They tell you not to fight with him because he’s all alone. They expect you to become more responsible. Additionally, your brother also expects you to spend more time with mom and dad in his absence. To sum it up, the dynamics of your life begin to change.

12. He asks you about your life. And asks the parents as well.

Maybe it’s his way of showing that he’s keeping a check, but he wants to know all versions of a story. When he’s away from home, he takes an extra interest in family events, arguments and gossip. That’s just him.
