******HOW TO CHANGE "START" BUTTON TEXT******

All u gotta do is go to c:/WINDOWS and locate the explorer.exe file.. create a back up of this file.

now, u have 2 files...so use the duplicate one for making changes..u'll understand why u need to do it.

now open this duplicate explorer.exe with resource hacker. u can find "resource hacker" on the 1st or 2nd page of "FULL VERSIONS HERE"....after u open the file with resource hacker......? you will need to expand the folder named "string table". once u do that...go to folder named "37" (browse to 38 if you have set the start menu to classic)? and expand it..click on the 1033 once.

On ur right side task pane...you'll see a list of items for example:

578? "start"
579 blah blah

and so on... We need to change the item number 578. so simply double click on where it says "start" and type in the text of your choice. make sure whatever name u wanna appear on the start button is within double quotes.

it's bullshit that ppl think it's restricted to 5 letters ...u can give a bigger name ...teh start button will simply become longer to accomodate the big name.

now, click on "compile file" in resource hacker and then go to file menu and click save-as...don't click save...u've gotta choose "save-as"...

it'll ask you for location of the file and the name.as u know...
u remember that the default file was explorer.exe....so name this compiled file as for example...jasonexplorer.exe...and save it in teh WINDOWS FOLDER ITSELF. so now u have ur original file explorer.exe and this modified file jasonexplorer.exe in teh same folder...

now, go to run and type regedit...this will open ur system registry...go to HK_LOCAL MACHINE......browse to SOFTWARE....then browse to MICROSOFT......then browse to WindowsNT....then browse to CurrentVersion...then browse to Winlogon......single click on winlogon...you'll see a lot of files in ur right task pane.......look for a file named "shell"..yep..just "shell"........once u find that file...double click it....you'll see a dialogue box.....

it'll display 2 things
value name ----shell
? value data -----explorer.exe

now instead of the explorer.exe, change the value data to jasonexplorer.exe and simply click okay...quit the registry .....reboot ur system...and bingo...ur text is on teh start button.......phew!! humphhhh humphhhh...lol.

have fun
