By the time, I finish this article, I guarantee you, I would have checked my phone for the 25th time. Then, I would also have opened a new tab and another one to compare prices of the dress that I’ve been lusting after. Maybe I'll get snacks or a coffee, and think about another story idea, and then finally come back to this one.

Today, most of us grapple with what is called ADD (Attention Deficit Disorder) where our attention is on ten different things, but never on one particular thing. That’s because we’ve got so much on our plate, and we need to finish it by hook or crook. Many might be confusing it with multi-tasking, but it’s NOT the same. ADD is not going to help you as it’s a threat to your concentration skills. However, it can be dealt with. Here’s how to deal with it. Do we have your complete attention?

1. Put that phone away

Mostly, your phone is to blame for this. How many times have you ignored your friends, family, and acquaintances while you were busy scrolling? You want to tweet, Instagram, check Facebook and take selfies, all at the same time. If you want to get some work done, don’t look at your phone for some time. Put it away, to where it isn’t easily accessible.

2. Lesser tabs on screen

Opening hundreds of tabs, not only makes your computer slow but also eats your attention. Try opening a maximum of five tabs in your browser. More than that will divert your attention, therefore stick to five.

3. Make lists and keep ticking away

It’s a sure shot way to get things done. Making lists not only keeps you organised but also helps you to get things done quickly. Before starting your day, make a list and keep ticking off items as you’re done with each.

4. Take small breaks

And by that, we mean get up from your seat and do what you like to do in your pastime. It can be listening to your favourite song or reading a paragraph from your favourite book and then get back to your work again.

5. Learn to say no

If your colleague insists you watch the trailer of a movie while you’re working then say ‘later’. Because distractions will stop you from concentrating on your work.

6. Avoid the company of pessimists

When there is negative energy around, you tend to feel demotivated and don’t feel like concentrating on work. Avoid people with negative energy - this will increase your productivity and input.
